    (1) Yes, you can still be denied health insurance. My family lost group coverage and had to go into the individual market about 9 months ago. We were denied by Kaiser and Aetna, got coverage through a smaller company, but with a significant exclusion of some coverage for my wife. Don't take my word for it, check the pre-existing plan info on

    The Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan makes health coverage available to you if you are a U.S. citizen or reside here legally, you have been denied health insurance because of a pre-existing condition, and you’ve been uninsured for at least six months.

    (2) All that other stuff is good, and I know about it, but it's just not nearly enough. There are still tens of millions of uninsured like Kevin. And leaving tens of millions uninsured led to a loss of political power by Dems. Thus all that cynical political scheming and calculating backfired--which the Dems easily would have foreseen if their heads hadn't been so far up their asses.
