One guy committed perjury, primarily because he's a gullible idiot.

No one was deprived of a real Democratic candidate because none was even trying to run.

Schmidt was running as a Democrat (so the other Democrats were not putting up someone against him).

It was Schmidt who colluded (with the Republican Bolger) to change his party affiliation at the VERY last minute, and have a fake Democrat on the ballot.

To say 'no one was deprived of a real Democratic candidate because none was even trying to run' kind of misrepresents what was going on here.

There's nothing even remotely illegal about changing your party affiliation, even at the last minute.

Had Schmidt never recruited this shmuck, the Democrats still wouldn't have a candidate, and the race would be unopposed.  There wasn't time for Democrats to field another candidate.

by assuring Schmidt that he would not have a Republican opponent. If Schmidt had not known this, he might have been scared of switching parties, and he would be our candidate.

        •  Schmidt is the incumbent. (4+ / 0-)

He won his seat as a Democrat. Now his district lines have been redrawn in such a way as to make his re-election as a Dem  extremely difficult. Bolger assured him that if he switched parties he'd have no Republican opponent in the primary, and his last minute switch, in conjunction with Bolger hiring a candidate to file as a Dem and make no effort to run, assured him of no real opposition in the general. Thus, he will be returned to the statehouse no matter what. I'm sure he will be grateful to Bolger, and be eager to repay him...

If that's not collusion and fraud, then there is no such thing. The Republican prosecutor even has a problem with it.

...because we have a write-in candidate for the primary election.

However it would have been nearly impossible to win a write-in campaign if someone's name was printed on the ballot, since a lot of people would instinctively vote for the name that was there.

          Really, this is not complicated.

and is bribed to switch parties as he is filing, that is not depriving voters of a Democratic candidate, as the candidate was a conservadem to start with?

Grill up a quality hot dog.
       Warm bun.
        Add chili to taste.
         Enjoy!
