they are Labour backbenchers and that the resolution won't come to a vote.  Still, it would be delicious to see Cameron grilled on this during Question Time.

Ultimately, the only thing that matters with respect to preserving choice is who will be nominating the next Supreme Court Justices.

    •  Partys (4+ / 0-)

Two of the sponsors, Durkan and Ritchie are members of the Northern Irish "Social and Democratic Labour Party", the others 9 are from the Labour party.

An EDM is not particularly important in parliamentary terms:

Early Day Motions (EDMs) are formal motions submitted for debate in the House of Commons. However, very few are actually debated. EDMs allow MPs to draw attention to an event or cause. MPs register their support by signing individual motions.

The Conservative Party traditionally have affiliations with the Republicans. If their diarists had any sense they would avoid the usual courtesy visits by presidential candidates to Downing Street although I suspect he may be seen by either Jeremy Hunt (with a C) in his role as minister for Culture, Media, Sports and the Olympics or Baroness Warsi in her role as Co-Chariman (sic) of the Party and who is in the Cabinet as a Minister Without Portfolio. Both are fairly toxic and likely to be ditched in the expected September reshuffle.

For me, Mitt reminds me of Jeff Bridges in Starman. He's like an alien that hasn't read the entire manual. You know, he's going, "Nice to be in a place where the trees are the right size. -- Robin Williams on Letterman 26 Apr 2012

Forgot to scroll down, which would have saved a lot of switching between the party lists and the names on the EDM.

          •  BTW (2+ / 0-)

It's Dennis Skinner AKA "The Beast of Bolsover" without the Y. He is very left wing and sits on the front row of the Opposition benched, immediately below (further from the Speaker) the Front Bench or the official opposition "shadow ministers".

He quite frequently interupts Prime Minister's Questions, although his attacks are missing the targets a bit as he gets older, and is best known for his shouted asides
abusing the monarchy as Black Rod summons the Commons  to hear the Queen's Speech.
