between the military and Scouting, and I imagine there still is.  Now that DADT is nothing but a bad memory and the Pentagon has allowed openly gay members to wear their uniforms in the Pride parade, I wonder if the military will reexamine their ties to homophobic Scouting.

I would hope so.  Homophobia is no longer compatible with "Good Order and Discipline" in the Armed Forces, maybe BSA will have to readjust their philosophy or lose the support they've enjoyed so long for programs like Sea Scout and Aviation Explorers.  Gosh, that would be a crying shame.

There was at least up until 2002, it might still be valid.  Some of my scouts that made Eagle and went into the service after high school got an automatic bump from E-2 to E-3 if they had Eagle (also had it for girls with the GS Gold Award).

It's not just the military - you can be eligible for certain college scholarships based on whether you made Eagle Scout or not.  My son got two of them at UF - small scholarships - $500 each, but hey, it paid for text books and part of his meal plan, so it's nothing to sneeze at.
