like dogo Argentino and great Danes were useful in hunting them?

Everything I've seen and read says that they're effective.

I'm not weighing in pro/against guns in this situation. I know these boars are incredibly dangerous and destructive.

And this may likely be one of those situations, like people living in AK (yes, even in the suburbs where bears wander in and out regularly) where increased firepower is reasonable,

I'm weighing in pro dog, which most everyone here knows is my default position.

We have to control, if not completely eradicate the feral pig population. Guns by themselves aren't working.

If it seems like I'm trying to change the topic, I am, sort of-- because we need to look for other solutions here as well.

And dogs doing what they were productively bred to do (not fight each other, but do work that makes life better) are very cool.

And then we don't need to rely on guns as much (which aren't working to control the problem).

    Yes? No? Maybe?

Catahoulas are pretty amazing when it comes to hunting wild pig. They can't kill them though. They harass, corral, and aid in getting the pigs into a clear firing lane. I suggest checking some of the videos out on youtube and reading up on them. They are phenomenal dogs.

These pigs can weigh multiple tons. Humans are the only realistic predators that can kill them in North America. The pigs are a cross between the wild breeds and domestic which accounts for their ridiculous size. They are invasive and a pest species. We have an ecological responsibility as humans to remove them from the wild before they do any more damage to native wild life.
