    By the conservative definition Canadians have a socialist welfare state, taxation policy, and a HIGHLY regulated banking system.

      Not a socialist welfare state or socialist taxation policy.

      We do have a regulated (not HIGHLY) banking system.  

      But the biggest difference between the US economy and the Canadian economy during the downturn is that our housing market didn't collapse as it did in the US (due to the banking regulations).

        I understand that American standards of what constitutes socialism are not generally accepted by the world/people that reason.

        But indeed according to the party that controls the US House of Representatives and obstructs all legislation in the Senate and is fielding a Presidential candidate only slightly behind in the polls - the welfare and tax policies of Canada are socialism.

        My point? If what Canada is doing - that is leading to these results - is "socialism"... let me get some of that.
