we are, and don't have any defensive abilities, eventually it will become a popular notion in the US to attack and incorporate Canada. We'd pick up vast oil reserves and other great industries, plus an educated workforce and access to the Arctic.

asses. I think that a peaceful annexation of Canada would be not nearly as bad a use of our military threat than the Iraq war was. Their NBA and MLB teams are already mostly American, it really wouldn't be a painful takeover. And we progressives would pick up a terrific single-payer health system.

To begin with, many Canadian conservatives are to the left of the Democratic Party in the US. No Republican would ever be elected president again.

Come to think of it, maybe we should throw ourselves into your arms as a public service for world peace.....

I am sure so many Canadians mourn in their heart that we did not succeed and make Canada part of the U.S

This is the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812 and Canadians are celebrating the fact that we repelled the invader

from KS picked up at age 44, after homesteading from IL in their 20's, to do the whole pioneer thing over again in Alberta (again by covered wagon, took them two summers, wintering in a sod hut halfway along). Not many thinking Canadians today would want to be part of the USA.

        •  You are no doubt aware (0+ / 0-)

That Canada was something of a refuge for disaffected loyalists and tories who not surprisingly didn't feel quite at home in the colonies anymore during and after the American revolution.
In fact, America was quite surprised that the Quebec inhabitants didn't help us in that war. Trouble is, they were perfectly comfortable living under a tolerant government, even one officially protestant.

If climate change continues unabated,  US "anschluss' of Canada is all but inevitable. But it'll have to compete for the headlines with the other wars throughout the world.

Picture the grain belt turning into the next great dessert. With about half the lower 48 mostly uninhabitable for heat and lack of fresh water, the nation of 300 million will look to the nation of 30 million and ask why "so few should have so much?"

Either the Canadians let Americans immigrate and, as with Florida and Texas, America assimilates Canada. Or the tanks simply storm north.

Today is a good time to be in one's 50s. It's the younger people who will really suffer.
