  •  60 Senate votes. Personality matters. (5+ / 0-)

The difference between 60 Senate votes and 59 is having global warming legislation; a public healthcare option; a stimulus bill in a recession; etc.

People like Franken and Warren and Obama are vital to have as major candidates because they can speak the truth persuasively, in a way that moves ordinary people. If Al Gore or John Kerry had Obama's personality, they'd have beaten Dubya...by enough to overcome GOP skullduggery and actually take power.

I have said a zillion times that if John Kerry had hired Al Franken and Molly Ivins (RIP) as his speechwriters, he'd be President.

Find people with that magic combination of policies and personality, and push them to the highest-profile races possible.

I was just saying, Warren being a woman is just one mark in the plus column for her as a Senatorial candidate.
