  •  I have several of Wentworth's Maud Silver series (7+ / 0-)

    and greatly enjoy her. She isn't a bit like Miss Marple, tone-wise. She is not a gentlewoman, has had to work for her living, and is acutely aware of What Could Happen and the realities of existence.

    They really are very cozy mysteries, in that the lovers are always reunited and the guilty are punished, and Right triumphs over Wrong. And that's a nice thing on occasion.

    When you come to find how essential the comfort of a well-kept home is to the bodily strength and good conditions, to a sound mind and spirit, and useful days, you will reverence the good housekeeper as I do above artist or poet, beauty or genius.
