as the NCAA has over Penn State. The Vatican is both a Church and a country. I don't think there is a body, even the UN, who has any jurisdiction over the Church. I don't think the Vatican would ever be brought before a group like the ICC. Even if the ICC had jurisdiction I doubt they would have the political will to challenge the Catholic Church.

Outside of criminal justice system that can go after individual priests, and some supervisors, challenging the Catholic Church has tremendous political risks in the US. Catholics are the largest voting block in Presidential elections. Kerry, a Catholic, lost the Catholic vote, Obama won it. With one or two exceptions the Catholics have picked every President since WWII.

Did you know that SNAP (Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests,) has filed in the International Criminal Court in the Hague:

A group representing victims of sexual abuse by priests says it is suing Pope Benedict and other top Vatican officials through the International Criminal Court [ICC] in The Hague for crimes against humanity.

The U.S.-based human rights group Center for Constitutional Rights says it it filing the suit on behalf of the Survivors Network of Those Abused by Priests [SNAP]. The lawsuit alleges that the Roman Catholic Church has maintained a "longstanding and pervasive system of sexual violence."

It also contends that while vowing to swiftly oust predators from the church, Vatican officials tolerated and enabled the systematic and widespread concealment of rape and child sex crimes.

The Vatican has made no immediate comment.

Victims from countries around the world, including the United States, Germany, Belgium, Ireland and the Netherlands, have come forward with reports of abuse by priests. Many victims accompanied the human rights lawyers to The Hague to urge prosecutors to investigate.

Pope Sued for Alleged Crimes Against Humanity

SNAP needs everyone's support, moral and otherwise, since, surprise, surprise, the rcxch is trying to dismantle it with a massive legal campaign against it.  In the Bishop Finn, Kansas City, case, the rcxch's lawyers are demanding 'RECORDS OF ALL VICTIMS WHO HAVE CONTACTED SNAP!'

We must support these heroes who are involved with SNAP, both the survivors and the those who work with SNAP.

I did not know that a complaint had been filed at the ICC. I think there are two issues that I mentioned in my comment, does the ICC have jurisdiction and do the ICC members have the political will to prosecute the Vatican? I have no expertise in international law, or ICC jurisdictional issues, so I leave that for the experts. However, I do not think the ICC members have the political will to challenge the Vatican.
