  •  Because the Obit says so? (5+ / 0-)

You don't call someone's live-in best friend a 'partner of 27 years' in an obituary.

Prayers and best wishes to those in Japan.

      That I noticed.

    •  Oh and someone doesn't have to have sex (0+ / 0-)

to be in a long-term committed relationship with the romantic trappings our society associates with sexual partnerships.

Frankly, I don't care what was going on in Sally Ride's bed. What I do care about is that the first woman astronaut in space lived for 27 years in a relationship her gay sister and the others around them saw as a same-sex romantic relationship. That she left a husband, a fellow astronaut she'd married for a few years, to partner with a childhood friend.

Her family and her partner are reporting she didn't use sexuality labels for herself, so unless we get more details from them we'll never know if she was lesbian, bisexual, or any of a combination of romantic and sexual orientations all of which are NOT being a heteroromantic heterosexual.

Sally Ride was some kinda QUILTBAG person. That she never specified which word out of the alphabet soup fit her best doesn't mean the word she would have picked if she had used labels isn't in there.

Prayers and best wishes to those in Japan.
