    That was in 1932, when Literary Digest magazine called the election for Landon in favor of Roosevelt, because they used sampling methods (such as lists of people with cars and telephones) that favored wealthier respondents over poor respondents.

    The problem in the 1948 polling was that actual public opinion regarding the election was quite unstable at the time the polling was done, and therefore the polls merely represented a momentary and ephemeral snapshot of voter opinion.
