This was the same phenomenon in 2004 when if you only read Daily Kos and never looked at state polls, you'd be certain that Kerry was going to win.  I came here for solidarity but I knew there was a level of cheerleading and disconnect from polling reality.

That said, I still see the president having the advantage at the state (EV) level in 2012 so I am not sinking into depression.  But there should be some sense of reality here that the race is close-- closer than it should be, and that perhaps the attacks on Romney are not having as fatal an effect as we would like.

I vote Democratic because I am a woman with self-respect , who rejects bigotry of all kinds, subscribes to science, believes in universal health care, embraces unions, and endorses smart internationalist foreign policy.

I remember 2004 well. It was my first year here, and I was so impressed by the high level of discourse (and in such need of solidarity) that I was a bit too credulous in the face of spin.

I think things have actually gotten better over the last couple of weeks. Even a month ago only a small minority of us would acknowledge that it's a close race -- and that seems to have changed. However, there's still a bit too much work put into spinning the polling in Obama's favor, including some comments upthread.
