.....winner take all elections leads to two parties:  the one in power and the oppo. party.

Since BHO needs a credible opponent (ie: a rational, empirical, loyal opposition), they over-look the GOP's clear counterdictions in order to continue the system......hence 'both sides do it' or worse, they ignore the obvious.

If the GOP doesn't shape up, they are going the way of the do-do

But far tool many Americans are not able to distinguish credibility. They have no critical or cognitive tools to sift the lies from the facts nor any interest or inclination in doing so.

They don't WANT their favourite slugger tested for steroids because the ONLY thing that matters is that OUR guy WINS.

He becomes OUR GUY by winning the slot, and then all that matters is that he wins the big event.

Winning is everything. How you get there no longer matters.

Once you reach that point, democracy is nothing more than a tool to gain power and once you have power, you repeal as many as possible of those facets that might enable an alternative to take away your power.

Voter ID, redistricting/gerrymandering etc are the civilised version of that, but they are in the same corner as direct vote buying, strong-arming and physically barring people from voting then killing recalcitrant voters and candidates.

The GOP is well advanced down that road and they are not being punished for it, so why would they change?

Until inauguration day The USA is in the greatest danger it has ever experienced.

    •  The other flaw is the people who report the news (4+ / 0-)

are the same people who will profit by controversy and having the election be a horse race/ reality teevee dumbfest.

And they profit in more ways than one.
They get more political ad money from controversy and horserace politics AND they get the added benefit of keeping a large portion of the American population dumbed down and ill-informed, the so called 'low information voter' (Ignoramus Americanus), who can be counted on being conned into voting against their own interest.

You see the real deal, flavor.  Many here just don't care to see this and want to think that somehow, some way, the media is going to or "should" somehow be neutral and so forth.

Reality is always a tough thing to swallow when you are dedicated to one way of thinking.

        Thanks for posting this.

The truth is sometimes very inconvenient.
