  •  Parsing words is stupid. Islamists are Muslim, (8+ / 0-)

not all Muslims are Islamists, and everybody understands the difference.  If you asked an obscurantist Christian from deep WV, they'd agree that not all Muslims are like Mohammad Atta.

The modern "Islam" problem is one generated by America Inc. and Intelligence Inc.'s difficulties in controlling all the big global trends.  It's just too much for them and frustrating as hell:  Economy, China, Mid-east, Europe, etc.
all with huge internal American debt and poor future prospects.

The whining about Islam is really a sigh of how limited our reach has become

From Neocon to sane- thanks to Obama- and Kos.

really does understand the difference, which makes the word "Islamist" such an effective propaganda tool for the right. I know plenty of redneck haters who really, truly won't admit that Islam is not evil. When I try to make the point you did, that not every Muslim is Mohammed Atta, they start burbling: Well, why aren't all these regular Muslims apologizing? Why haven't they taken responsibility for members of "their" faith and turned in the radicals and prevented terrorist attacks? etc. etc. etc. They really do not want to believe that Muslims are normal people, so a word like "Islamist" plays right into their fears, and Sheldon Adelson certainly knows this.

BTW to the diarist - nice job! I knew that Adelson was (1) a big-time donor who funded Gingrich and now Romney; and (2) waaaay to the dangerous right, even right of AIPAC, on Israel issues, and would probably be very happy for the U.S. to start a war with Iran. But I had no idea that he owned newspapers. Just what we need, another Rupert Murdoch messing with our politics.

that I have to apologize for Sheldon Adelson? Cause I won't.

Don't tell me what you believe, show me what you do and I will tell you what you believe.
