  •  That's fine (0+ / 0-)

That's all you need to know to have your little soldier spitathon.  Please don't allow me to detour you on your mission to understand nothing, be unable to lobby for any real solutions, and to simply spread hatred and misinformation.

...absolve our fine soilders of responsibility.  It is out patriotic duty.

And it is telling that you are using allusions to the spitting on Vietnam vets when they came home.  And I understand a lot about what is going on there I just haven't blinded myself with the pro military, pro USA blinders as you have.

      •  Pro military? (0+ / 0-)

I have come to understand that the military IS always going to be a part of my nation.  I have even come to understand that I need them at times.  I have also come to understand that they can be sent into immoral wars and preform atrocities.  None of these lessons were easy for me, and I'm not blinded.  I'm also not such an arrogant asshole, that simple hatreds give me simple pleasures and solutions and further my endeavor to be senselessly self righteous and ultimately intellectually lazy all at the same time.

I don't send people to preform the impossible, and then lie about other events surrounding the mission I sent them on in order to make them appear even more heinous.  I don't feel so shitty about myself that I need easy scapegoats.  I'm just not made of that sort of stuff.

          ...with such ease..

.. is just shocking to me.  And no amount of backhand insults will minimize the truth that these horrors where treated by at least one general as more of a PR problem than a human suffering problem.

And yes I do realize the enlisted men are used and abused and ordered to do horrible things.  I do not hate them.  I pity them.  And while I am not intellectully lazy I would rather be that than moraly lazy and justify inaction as someone else's fault because it just wasn't our responsibility, supposedly.  Our military can be a force of evil in this world especially when weilded by indifferent politicians.  That is not makeing them scapegoats.

          •  One General hid this (0+ / 0-)

One Colonel pressed this.  One career would be destroyed.  The truth has prevailed.  A Colonel is a hero and ought to be.  A General has probably been destroyed too.  And your problems at the hospital in Afghanistan are still there because it wasn't our military doing it.  But perhaps we can do something now while we are there.  There will more American contractors sent to Afghanistan, and then that will be a horror too around here.  And when we leave Afghanistan corruption will return, but for now it is our military's problem and a General should have never prevented the right thing from being done.  That is the full reality of what has happened here.

...brought this to light should be considered hero's..  I suspect his career is ended.  It may be more likly than the generals considering how the military and the politicians treat whistle blowers.  And it is not like the corruption will return, it was never gone in the first place.  Our military is quite sanguine about corruption.  Within and without.

              •  Further demonstrating that you know zero (0+ / 0-)

about military culture....the Colonel's career is not ended in any way.  Particularly if President Obama is re-elected.  He is a hero right now, the whole military is too afraid to harm him because the press will write bad things about them and then you will have real reasons to say the things you say.  The military is very political in too many ways.  David Petraeus was supposed to have had his career destroyed too when he left Mosel, but that didn't happen now did it?

I wish the military wasn't as political as it is, but when you get to field grade it is.  The Colonel will be fine unless Mitt gets in, then some ranking winger (if there are any left in uniform at this point of being at war under a Democratic President) who hates those who shed light, could try to squash him if they can.  There are not many though who have been able to stomach being in uniform and at war under a President who won't just let you just light them up.
