  •  Yes I know that (7+ / 0-)

And despite the interview taking place in Reno, it is with a foreign paper, and timed for publication when Mitt would be physically visiting Israel. Bit disingenous to say "won't criticize the President on foreign soil during this visit because my criticism will be expressed when my feet were still technically on US soil"

from a bright young conservative: “I’m watching my first GOP debate…and WE SOUND LIKE CRAZY PEOPLE!!!!”

Romney's not freelancing in the interview; he's telling them exactly what his advisers have calculated would be a politically effective criticism of Obama foreign policy.  He's not revealing his inner nature, as his Olympics gaffe in London did, but rather expressing the cynical calculations of his campaign.

I'll also note that he doesn't mention Jerusalem in the interview.  As Paul Werdel notes over at TPM, such a statement has the potential to be explosive.

bring a bag of U.S. soil along with him so he can stand on it when he feels like criticizing Obama.
