    people and some people are do-what-you're-told.  The latter assume that someone else knows better than them what needs to be done and will tell them how.  That also provides a certain guarantee that what they do won't be wrong or, if it is, it will be someone else's fault.

    Do-it-yourself is risky.  When you mess up, you have no-one to blame but yourself.  Also, if you really mess up bad, that can be the end of everything. Organizing to spread risk and responsibility actually makes sense.  After all, that's why we have public corporations (nation, state, county, town).  And we even authorize private corporations.  The problem we have with the latter is that their missions aren't clearly spelled out or have been allowed to deteriorate into just one -- accumulating a monetary profit. Money is a good measure.  But, when it becomes an end in itself, it's sort of like self-abuse--not productive.  And when money becomes an obsession, it becomes self-destructive.
