I am always interested in exploring why certain ideas appeal to the political right. I think it is necessary to understand that in order to better communicate my own views from the left. As a result, I am eager to find time to read the recently released book by Jonathon Haidt; THE RIGHTEOUS MIND: Why Good People Are Divided by Politics and Religion

While I haven't delved in to the book yet, I have heard a number of interviews, and read some of his other articles. Some of his findings are not terribly pleasant to hear. He posits that conservatives have a better understanding of where liberals are  coming from than the reverse. (At the most cynical level that means they know which of our buttons to push, but we don't know how to reciprocate)

Lots of thought provoking reading available from his websites.
