I've read a number of the diaries in the series but I'm not sure I've read them all, and know for sure that I can't list the topics I've read.

One thing that is valuable is to recognize hot button topics and use especial care with them. There was a recent diary by a person I respect who needed to rant on something. I really didn't agree with several of the conclusions but was able to hold back the kerosene long enough to write a comment that asked for clarification first, rather than expounding my (clearly superior!) views. The diarist did explain, calmly. The explanation was one that left me fairly confident that I would not change their mind so I more or less left the comments at that point.

No minds changed but also no flame war, and we left the encounter with cordial feelings toward each other that will help in the future when a more negotiable point comes up.

Is it true? Is it kind? Is it necessary? . . . and respect the dignity of every human being.
