    To Kill a Mockingbird and A Prayer for Owen Meany, but it was a hard decision to make.  I also love Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn.  I love all four of them more than almost any other books I've read.  I think you'd have to be  extremely - um, I almost want to say "stupid" but maybe that's not fair, perhaps "narrow-minded" is better, to miss the message in each of these books.  

    I suspect that Twain's books were banned because of the "n" word, and I understand the objection on that point, but the books transcended the political incorrectness of that.  I have always hated the word and understood that only the very ignorant use it, so I never thought that Twain was validating it, and in fact was emphasizing that the characters who used it were low-class and racist.
