  •  The truly laughable thing about this trip (15+ / 0-)

is that it tramples all over Romney's own message. He wanders off into territory that, according to the polls, Obama owns. Foreign policy is basically irrelevant to Romney's prospects. This trip couldn't ever have done him much good, and clearly ended up doing him harm. If he had the brains God gave a head of lettuce, he would have ceded the foreign policy area by saying something like this:

"When it comes to the foreign policy of the United States, I have been heartened to see that President Obama has continued in large part the policies of his predecessor, President Bush, and I will seek to continue this bipartisan approach to the conduct of foreign policy with, perhaps, a few minor tweaks along the way."

With that one statement, he could have zeroed out the President's advantage on foreign policy and keep the argument focused on the economy, his preferred battleground. Good thing he is an incompetent boob.

The universe may have a meaning and a purpose, but it may just specifically not include you.

    •  Well don't spell it out for him!!! (6+ / 0-)

Your suggestion needs an immediate rewrite:

When it comes to the foreign policy of the United States, I have been heartened to see that on my recent trip abroad I didn't destroy any alliances or accidentally start any wars; at least not as of today. But there's always tomorrow! ( Wait for applause ) You see, my friends, my goal in large part is to continue the policies of President Bush. When he was sober. And I will seek to continue his haphazard approach to the conduct of foreign policy with, perhaps, a few minor tweaks along the way even though foreign policy is kind of boring and there aren't any obscene profits to squeeze out of it. Which is just as well because I don't know the first thing about foreign policy. But then again, I don't have to because I'm filthy rich!

Thank you and god bless America. Oh, and poor people too.

trapped by his rhetoric from the primary, which was that Obama had been disastrous in foreign policy just as he had in domestic policy.  'Feckless', humiliating to the U.S., etc.  In fact for much of last Fall Mitt was really leaning on that, probably because he feared that the economy would improve too much to be a critical issue.   I don't know if a more skilled politician could have been able to etch-a-sketch out of that one, but apparently not Willard.

I'm just waiting for the video of Mitt riding in the tank...

      Can't talk about foreign policy

I think we are painting ourselves into a corner, boss.
