  •  I teed this up as contrarian argument (0+ / 0-)

It does not have to be right to be expressed - or acted upon. Also, It's testable.

    •  OK, point taken there (0+ / 0-)

re it being contrarian argument; you did say that. Though the way you wrote it, it did and still does come across to me as if you fully believed it. But I'll let that go.

But as for the idea being testable -- how do you plan to test it? Even if the base does get riled up by these remarks, that still doesn't mean that they were deliberate -- and likewise, a lack of firing up the base doesn't mean that they weren't deliberate.

      •  Tomorrow is Poland, with Russia as audience (0+ / 0-)

Let's see how Mittens addresses missile defense and nuclear arms limitations issues.

If he goes 3-for-3 with aggravation, that's a pretty strong basis for saying it's purposeful activity.

Now, as for it firing up the base, I suppose that'll will be determined in the cross-tabs in coming weeks.

        •  You're neglecting the null hypothesis (0+ / 0-)

which in this case would be that Romney is a nullity. How do you prove that the base isn't getting fired up by a nullity?
