    It's a little too cute by half for my taste.

      As the Green candidate for IL-Gov, he pulled double digits against Blagojevich and Baar-Topinka.  However, that was a perfect storm, and demonstrates why a downballot House race is not likely to see that kind of result.

        ...your situation in Illinois demonstrated that a minor candidate spikes only when both major party nominees are acutely unpopular.  Blago was widely disliked because he was corrupt.  Topinka was disliked partly because of the "R" next to her name and partly because she let Blago control and destroy her public image.  So that opened the door for Whitney.

        Sutton and Renacci have no similar problem, neither one is acutely disliked except by opposing partisans.  So there's no opening for a minor candidate.
