I used to have an office above the Shattuck Hotel right around the corner from the Berkeley Main Post Office.  How could I ever forget the ridiculous lines and the surly service from the people behind the counters?  Living proof that you can create a Little Hitler by handing a pistol to a filing clerk.

Once we received a piece of mail -- returned to us months after we mailed it.  It was mutilated.  The letter bore an official stamp that said, "Found behind a mail processing machine."  Think about that.  That kind of thing happens often enough that they have an official stamp to deal with it.

The building is beautiful but for at least the past 20 years service there has sucked.

This aggression will not stand, man.

    •  why is the mailman who delivers your mail (0+ / 0-)

almost always a great human being, fiendly. upbeat, energetic...yet the person behind the counter at a post office is almost always the most indolent, lazy assed, sour, POS?

      I don't get it.

      Oregon:'s cold. But it's a damp cold.

    •  I have many fond memories (0+ / 0-)

of spending my lunch hour in line waiting to do something at that post office.  Many times I gave up.
