  •  It's true there was methane in some areas before (4+ / 0-)

    fracking but there is much more now along with other chemicals after fracking. Natural gas is considered "cleaner" than coal because when it burns it produces 50% less carbon footprint than coal. But to get to the point of burning the stuff there is a terrible environmental price to pay. The use of water alone is enormous and the disposal of the tainted waste water by injecting tons of into the earth is known to cause small earthquakes.

    The environmental damage and the outrage it is causing in many areas are becoming part of the risk management of investing in the industry. If you check those investment sources you will find that with the natural gas glut and the increasing risk, fracking is starting to become uneconomical. The economics are causing a slowdown in drilling and fracking in some areas.
