  •  Just like Paul Begala said on Cooper's show... (24+ / 0-)

right after Bash spoke; it's a case of Occam's Razor. In other words, the most simple, most logical conclusion is usually the right one.

Without that confirmation the reality is what is perceived to be true, and that perception is moving towards the idea that Romney did not pay the taxes for those 10 years.
I personally believe the reason why he won't release his tax returns is that he took the amnesty deal back in 2009, and if he did release the returns dated before that year, he'd be admitting that he was a tax dodger for many years.

But, either way, Romney has made a calculated decision that the hit he's taking right now and in the future is/will be less severe than the hit he'd take by releasing them to the public.

This is why Reid and the Obama campaign CANNOT relent on this attack. They've got Romney in a corner now, and he's already prone to making mistakes.

    •  Mitt and his ear whisperers have put releasing (12+ / 0-)

his returns on a scale. On one pan of the scale is releasing them. On the other pan, withholding. We now know which one outweighs the other. It has nothing to do with principle. If they are willing to take this kind of heat, now and possibly for the duration of the campaign, the damage that will come by  releasing his tax returns must be very, very bad.
It could be that he paid little or even nothing in taxes, tax amnesty, residency (claimed Utah residency, voted in Mass.). Maybe he stiffed the Mormon church out of its required 10% tithing. Maybe it's something we haven't even considered or even an olio of all of the above.
But whatever it is, you are 100% right. Turn up the heat and keep it on. He truly thinks it will go away. Prove him wrong BHO.
