Well, last week, the bathroom wall next to the tub started shedding tiles. Seems that some of the green board behind the tiles deteriorated, and the tiles came loose, and the mastic let go. We have to clean out a portion of the backer board, replacing it with cement board screwed into the wood lath behind it, apply tape and mud, then clean off and re-install the tile.

I had to buy a 3' X 5' sheet of cement board, and 55 lbs. (!) of mud mix. No smaller portions available. And while we were heading home last Sunday with these items, Calamity Jean's brother calls us: my 95-year-old father-in-law fell and cracked his right femur.

This got fixed Tuesday: three 85 mm. titanium screws into the bone. We took turns staying with him overnight in the hospital. He's now in the rehab center at his senior living community, and seems to be doing well.

And then there's Calamity Jean's younger sister, who had her left hip replaced Thursday. She's also doing ok, and will go into rehab on Monday.

Meanwhile, we continue sponge baths, the bathroom wall yet untouched.

I wish our new house was up two years ago!
