First of all, given the rampant police brutality in this country, I believe American citizens have a Constitutional right to own any firearm the Police have.  If you want to disarm the police first, we can start negotiations there.

But second, why the constant focus on the tool of the murder, rather than on the murder.  If this nut had walked into the temple with knives, like the machette used to kill my great aunt, would you be talking about knife regulation or the mindset of the crazy killer?

Third, why do you think that gun laws will suceed where murder laws fail?  Are you planning to completely repeal the 2nd Amendment and outlaw all guns?

How do you plan to stop a black market in guns when other prohibitions have so spectacularly failed to control other items?  Do you want guns sold in stores, or on playgrounds by gang members?

A massacre can be committed with knives.
    Or with a car.
    Or with homemade explosives.
    Or with guns.

You will never be able to ban all the tools of murder and death.  You will never be able to wrap the world in bubble wrap.  And another layer of laws will not stop someone determined to violate a dozen murder laws.

The issue is the hate, not the tools the hater uses.

      harm in seconds..........

let's debate the gun laws later.

    •  And exactly when... (12+ / 0-)

...was the last massacre committed with a knife?

      ...with a car?

      ...with homemade explosives?

Because the last mass murder committed with a gun was just over two weeks ago.

      •  We had homemade explosives (3+ / 0-)

kill a lot of people in Oklahoma City almost 20 years ago...but that was followed by regulation on sale of fertilizer and other substances used in that attack, IIRC. (And of course it's ignored that the perpetrators weren't Muslim terrorists or sympathizers, but good ol' American boys.)

      •  Then you'd better repeal the 2nd Amendment for ALL (2+ / 0-)

All including the police.  I'm not going to live in a world where police brutality against Occupy protesters is allowed to run rampant, where we are no longer allowed to petition our government while they hide behind armed guards.

If you want to disarm American citizens, then that includes the police and the FBI.  And no armed body guards for politicians.

Get the powerful to agree to give up their guns first, then we'll talk about the fallicy of gun control stopping those determined to commit murder.

    •  Much less likely for multiple (10+ / 0-)

deaths/injuries if someone walks in with a knife -- certainly you wouldn't have a police officer seriously injured (likely he or his partner would have been able to take the assailant down if he was simply wielding a knife; anyone with basic martial arts training can deal with a single knife wielder with a basic leg sweep to knock the dude off his feet).

I haven't seen that many people calling for a full-on repeal of the Second Amendment...but we need to use common sense. The Founding Fathers never envisioned an era where there would be weapons that could kill a hundred people without having to reload. They never envisioned an era where black people would no longer be enslaved either, yet we didn't allow that to prevent us granting them full civil rights.

Gun control does not equal gun ban. It's more a recognition that there are certain weapons that have no purpose other than killing people, and regulating them accordingly. How many people are going to take an AK-47 out to bag a deer or bring home fresh duck for their Sunday dinner?

    •  Disarm police? (0+ / 0-)

Then we would have even more nut cases with guns killing people.

I don't believe a knive could kill six people and wound many more. Correct me of I'm wrong but a think two sem-automatic handguns are more lethal than a knife or knives.

      A hater witout a gun is only a hater---not a killer.
