  •  The only Republican (4.00)
that would even think about voting for impeachment, with the possible exception of Shays, is Paul Ryan of Texas, and that's just because he is insane.

The Members you cite as locks, while moderate on some issues, would never cross the aisle on something like this.  Yes, there is an occassional issue that has a ton of constituent support where they will cross the aisle, but this is not one of them.

While I would love to impeach Bush, I don't think there is much mainstream support for such an idea.  I doubt more than half of Democratic voters would even support it.  Therefore, it would not be wise politically for those Republicans to support it.

Second, no matter how you slice it, they are loyal Republicans.  They vote with their party a large percentage of the time, and only buck it in extreme instances.

I've spent a lot of time lobbying these specfic members, and if we can't get them to vote for 1/2 billion dollars for child abuse prevention or child care, we're not going to get them to vote to impeach the sitting President.  It would be political suicide, even in Connecticut, Illinois or New York.

    •  Oops (none)
I meant Ron Paul of Texas, not Paul Ryan of Wisconsin.

Oh, and BTW - I think this is a great idea and fully support all impeachment efforts.  I'm just not very optimistic about winning, but maybe I'm jaded from my years in D.C.
