    that this school's policy violates the LA law on discriminating -- but of course, there's always going to be a fine line between "establishing a code of behavior" and "discriminating".

    In any case, it isn't necessarily true that "you don't control them". Each state makes its own laws as to how charter schools will operate. In some states, charter schools have considerable flexibility, but still must follow various mandates as to curriculum, discipline, testing and so on.

    Charter schools don't have to be a bad idea, but the rules do need to be carefully guarded against exploitation by the 1% (who of course want to use them as mechanism for turning our public education system into just one more profit channel).

    To put the torture behind us is, inevitably, to put it in front of us.

      You went into detail where I didn't, and charter schools can be subject to control.  However, I do not trust the corporaticians.  Period.  Which leads to my position that there should be no charter schools at all.
