    As for a marketing study of the clickability, I suspect someone tried it, it worked, and it caught on.  I'm surprised it hasn't run its course yet.

      1- causing ads to vibrate or designing them so something in them moves....obviously designed to catch the attention of the viewer and hopefully induce them to click.

      2- Use of photos of people who are grossly ugly and/or caught in mid-sneeze, cough or eye blink....again to attract attention.

      3- and my LEAST favorite of all...video ads that start running if your cursor comes anywhere near them.  No clicks needed....proximity starts them rolling.  And of course, providing no way to get them to stop other than bailing out of the entire page.

      Whenever I can, I immediately go to the company's website and advise that as long as they use such tools, they can be absolutely sure they will NEVER see any business from me.

      Free markets would be a great idea, if markets were actually free.
