If he debates, he gets laughed off the stage. If he doesn't debate, he gets branded a coward.

It's a bit like his tax returns.

If he releases his tax returns, tax policy and how it currently favors the wealthy, becomes an election issue (and all the other issues that might crop up). If he doesn't, questions persist and he gets accused of being a shady tax cheat.

Romney participated in what felt like 12 million primary debates this past year.  He's got recent experience in debate-land, he may be feeling confident that he had Mad Debate Skillz.  And he doesn't have anyone in his entourage who can tell him that his Skillz dont Pay Da Billz.

He also won't be able to dictate the sort of audience who would boo a returning soldier or cheer the death of poor people.  So he'll go in all cocky and confident and Obama will eat his lunch.

      This I believe.

    •  I'm not so sure about the debates. (0+ / 0-)

The way he dances around all the issues makes me wonder if anyone could pin him down on anything. Given the proclivity for the debate moderators to play softball (emphasis on Soft) with the questions, he may pass relatively unscathed. He's got his base and it's up to the POTUS to lose this one. Got to win the Indies.
