and the evangelicals were tight with D'Aubuisson.   See here:
      PAT ROBERTSON,ROBERTO D'AUBUISSON & THE DEATH SQUADS

In the Spring of 1984 Pat Robertson and CBN reporter Norm Mintle traveled to El Salvador where they met with the late Roberto D’Aubuisson. Following the trip, the "700 Club" aired four 20-30 minute segments on El Salvador, the major theme being that D’Aubuisson was a "very nice fellow" who was being maligned by the "biased liberalism" of Newsweek, Time and U.S. News and World Report.

D’Aubuisson - a very nice fellow? Hardly! D' Aubuisson was considered to be the most nortorious torture and Death Squad leader in El Salvador; he was described by Robert White, former U.S. Ambassador to El Salvador, as a "pathological killer," and was widely known as "Major Soplete" (i.e., "Major Blowtorch").

I started googling around with Evangelicals, El Salvadore, and found an article in May 1996 from the LA Times that he was using a big huge L-1011 jumbo jet as a flying hospital.

"In June,(this was 1996)  the circa 1974 plane--equipped with $16 million in surgical suites, a dental office and a medical classroom--begins its first mission in El Salvador for Operation Blessing, a charity organized by evangelist Pat Robertson's Christian Broadcasting Network."

They had a very big presence there.  Big Money.  Big Planes.  Connections to CIA, guns, drugs, and bigger money, too?   Just like casinos, churches can launder large amounts of dough, too.

I am getting this horrible feeling that the Christian Right has really formed up into a huge fascist organization that has been right under our noses, and we have NO IDEA about how big it is, and what it's capabilities are.
Electing a Mormon is kind of an intentional  red herring --they know that someone that is close to the Christian Right won't get elected,  but he's as big a part of it as any of the other Dominionists are.
