  •  Holy crap. My master's thesis is on d'Aubuisson. (7+ / 0-)

The stuff they were involved in...my God...it even made my right wing country club republican father in law turn green when I read some stuff to him.

14 families. That's what controlled El Salvador (per capita they probably controlled less than the 400 top people in the US, but I digress). When it's just 14 families, you have to have paramilitary squads -- death squads -- to protect your wealth.

d'Aubuisson of course had Archbishop Oscar Romero killed. And the El Mozote massacre...oh God...that's just some horrible, horrible stuff. And the murder of the Jesuit priests in 1989...and this is where Christopher Dodd came into my consciousness because he stood on the floor of the Senate and talked about those men as good friends of his...he was clearly shaken up and visibly upset and angry.

The death squads were funded by the US, as well as Argentina, Israel, Saudi Arabia (ironic, I know), etc. d'Aubuisson trained at the School of the Americas when it was at Ft. Benning. The guy wasn't just training death squads to tie people's thumbs behind their backs, he was using some sophisticated shit.

    •  Do you have a link (5+ / 0-)

      to your work?

I lived in Central America during the Guatemalan Civil War, and have an interest in its history.

      •  Not yet. I wrote it in the 1990s before stuff was (1+ / 0-)

all put up on digital databases. I do want to get it published into Proquest eventually just so it can be accessed and will probably do that when my dissertation for my doctorate is finished later this year. (Yippee!)

I will gladly scan it, though, and send it to you privately if you want to message me with an email address. It might take me a week or so to get it all scanned, but I'd like to have it electronically as well.
