  •  My fiancée, a survivor (29+ / 0-)

is an elected Democratic official in a deep red city, and served on the board of her local Komen regional foundation--until she heard about the issue with Planned Parenthood (which we both wholeheartedly support).  She immediately resigned and told the board and Komen why.

To be honest, however, she'd been considering doing so for some time.  Why?  Well, when they were looking to hire a new regional director they were having a difficult time finding a qualified candidate.  The ones they did interview ended up declining--well, the pay at a "non-profit" is rarely life-changing, particularly at the regional level.  However, a major reason was that they did not offer any sort of healthcare--and Komen's national office refused to allow additional funding to be spent so that they could provide it!  This, from a group ostensibly concerned with health and, in particular, a health issue that one's survival chances from increase dramatically when regular examinations are possible.

We knew then what kind of organization this was/is.  The faster it can fade away and that money go to somewhere like the National Breast Cancer Coalition the better.

    •  National Breast Cancer Coalition is the leader (0+ / 0-)

in the breast cancer movement, the only organization left standing in the battle who has a clear, intelligent and forward thinking agenda to end breast cancer.

Their work is head and shoulders above Komen and any other breast cancer organization.

Komen has been playing "whack a mole" for years with competing breast cancer group and sadly many are now gone.
