    But unfortunately, while I've been talking for many years to people about the fact that we are already seeing a mass extinction event I get mostly blank looks.  It literally doesn't compute for most everybody - even people who are not total wingnuts.

    It's incredibly frustrating.

      Then the 1980s arrived — I simply could not believe the way the country turned its back on what science already knew. The environmental movement, which had been on its way to being perceived as mainstream, ran into a wall of well-financed lobbies and a pliant media eager to portray it as a bunch of Luddites and domestic terrorists out on the fringes of civilization.
