They have set about systematically vilifying and injuring everybody else, and many of those injured have taken notice and organized to fight back. The hard nut is that fraction of society injured by Republican policies who seem to think that it is OK as long as those they hate get hurt worse. People who will vote to raise their own taxes and cut programs that help them as long as social programs for the "undeserving" get cut more, or as long as the Republicans promise to oppress users of birth control and abortion services.

Although we cannot get through to all such people, the fact is that the President has moved significantly ahead in the battleground states by highlighting such issues, and is continuing to do so. Within hours of the Ryan announcement, the Obama campaign had an ad out attacking him and Romney over the Ryan budget. (Obviously, it had already been in the can waiting for the opportune moment, which came early.)

Just as I was writing this, David Gregory played this very ad to GOP Chairman Reince Priebus on Meet the Press, calling it a "rap sheet" on Romney/Ryan. I generally can't stand Gregory's wimpishness, but Rachel Maddow will be on later, and in fact Gregory is confronting Priebus on his statements. Priebus is, of course, not answering questions, but simply ignoring them and lying about Obama's record and the Democrats.

Hey, Mitt! Thanks for ObamneyCare. http://www.healthcare.gov
