  •  Hey I've Seen A Couple Cornfields..... (0+ / 0-)

....in Carlton County but I don't think you'd consider that a cornfield county.  What's the percentage of acreage dedicated to cornfields needed to qualify as a corn county? :)

    •  HAHA (0+ / 0-)

I think it has to be a function of GDP somehow. But another way to look at it is to check cornfield acreage vs. tree acreage.

So arbitrarily, a corn county in Minnesota should henceforth be defined as any county that has over 30% of GDP come from agricultural crops, AND have more acres devoted to farming than forests.

      Sound reasonable?

.....although I'm not sure some of those central Minnesota counties like Todd and Morrison would qualify as corn counties.   They're kind of in a middle ground with a hybrid of farm fields and trees.  Not Murray County by any stretch but also not Itasca County.

        •  I know Itasca County quite well (2+ / 0-)

I can only think of two tiny family farms where there is corn in the entire county. One just outside of Blackberry, and a slightly larger one somewhere between  Deer River and Bigfork.
