    and tossed to the wolves. Perhaps our current leadership needs to share the same fate. And at the same time we make sure these abandoned children are provided for, we need to make sure the means exist not to bring more excess people into the world. Our motto should be every child a wanted child. Of course on this issue of abandoned and orphaned children, crickets from the "prolife" forced birth folks, who fell that life begins at conception and ends at birth.

      Remember, this is happening in western Europe, where abortion is widely available and often covered under state-funded health insurance. Contraception is universally available and mostly free. And sex education is pretty solid.

      The means exist. Some people choose not to take advantage of them, because...well, many people want to have children.

      But the reality of their economic situation 9 months after they get pregnant might be very different from what they expected. That's particularly true for younger parents with lower economic/educational attainment, whose financial position is often quite precarious. But lower-income, less-educated people almost universally choose to have more kids and have them younger than wealthier/more educated people.
