Republicans in disarray! Man bites dog!

Seriously....conventions are so fucking boring these days, the media would love to have something more interesting to talk about. Like a credentials challenge, for example.

The more oxygen this gets, the better.

Also, there are an awful lot of truly execrable GOP Govs out there (Walker, Snyder, Scott....), but LePage might just be the biggest, rankest asshole of the bunch. No way he gets re-elected, right? He's got short-timer written all over him (IMHO).

    •  Not necessarily good to get more "oxygen" (0+ / 0-)

If there is a fight, it will certainly garner attention and media coverage. It will also give Romney an extra boost if he "wins" - at least temporarily.

from a bright young conservative: “I’m watching my first GOP debate…and WE SOUND LIKE CRAZY PEOPLE!!!!”

anyway. And then for a contentious convention to be a permanent net positive for Romney, he has to be bringing all those Paul people into the fold. Inside the tent pissing out, as it were. And if there is some sort of nastiness regarding delegate seating, he very well might lose support from that wing of the nominal R base.

In the event of an open fight, it will tend to reinforce the narrative of GOP disunity. Having an obvious/well-known party schism spotlighted on national TV is something they would be smart to avoid....whatever possible benefit in publicity is usually outweighed by the negative impression given by public squabbling. This happens to us constantly in smaller venues.

I'll concede that it's possible a dramatic/hostile convention is good for Romney, but IMHO every contingency has to break their way and Team Romney has to manage to avoid bungling anything or having any more "move to Massachusetts" moments. Which sounds like a tall order for them, given how the last five weeks or so have gone....
