  •  I guess it depends which way you lean (0+ / 0-)

but, as I saw it, Ryan pretty much held his own against Obama in the Healthcare Summit.  "Schooled" may be a tad over the top, but while he was polite, he really reamed the Obama admin's attempt at double accounting and claims of reducing the deficit.

As for Joe Biden.. no comment, as who knows what the heck he will say at any given moment.  Ought to be a fun debate!

    •  "pretty much held his own"? really? (1+ / 0-)

      •  are you kidding? (0+ / 0-)

From about :40 seconds out to the end..

If you don't think that shows someone with a masterful command of the subject - even if you disagree with him -  then we've got nothing to talk about.

Since I have checked the facts, most of what he says is true.. especially when he talks about ten years of income scored against six years of benefits..  Congress and Obama fixed the starting date of most benefits at a point far enough in the future to get the CBO to score it as budget neutral.. a gimmick.

        •  But isn't that the correct scoring in this case (1+ / 0-)

because the benefits did not begin right away.  They wanted to build up the "pot" so to speak first.

Democrats have been criticized for delaying the implementation of the plan's best benefits because it lead to people not being aware of all the benefits and therefore not embracing ACA.  l

          •  No, that was not the reason (0+ / 0-)

The reason was simply to be able to get it scored like that.

The American people would have never allowed the bill to go thru knowing the true cost over ten years.

Yes, the scoring was correct as was presented to CBO.   But, when scored from 2014-2024 the ten year cost is astronomical.  Especially when you add back in the "doc fix" and get rid of the other gimmicks, like "income" from the Class Act (Community Living Assistance Services and Supports program) - which HHS has had to pull the plug in the last several months because it was unsustainable and the original figures and estimates were wildly unreliable.  etc.. etc..

shows someone with a masterful command of the subject, even if you disagree with him?  What does that mean?  Either he has a masterful command of the subject, with respect to facts, or he doesn't.  At the beginning he does present some facts with which I agree.  Once he starts spinning, I don't.

He droned on for a while delivering a prepared statement that contained a smidgen of facts, padded with a lot of fluff.  That does not equal command of the subject.  He is to be commended for getting in all his talking points/lies about government takeover of healthcare.

He should have choked on his own hypocrisy about
not scoring a bill because it contains insufficient detail.  The famous Ryan plan contains no detail about how he is magically going to make all his budget cuts.

And he should have choked even further on his own hypocrisy about "hiding spending does not reduce spending" after he cooperated with GWB leaving the cost of two wars completely off the books for seven years!

I hope you have watched more of the tape than those six minutes, because the people who spoke after Ryan answered his talking points pretty well.
