  •  With Every Building In The US (10+ / 0-)

having to be built to support air conditioning even in the north part of the US because even there summers are so hot people will actually die without air conditioning.  Energy innovation is more important then ever.  Coal, oil and natural gas will not be a long term solution because these same energy sources is what is making the US so hot.  What to do, what to do?  New energy sources need to be increased so that cost comes down, such as solar panels, wind turbines, geothermal energy.  My husband and I got geothermal air and heat and thanks to President Obama at least got $7,000 off our taxes after paying $21,000 for the system.  Congress needs to explain to the American people why we don't have a more robust energy policy to save this world.

My husband and I are not rich, but middle class.  I wish we could afford solar panels too.  Also, we have a dam and would love to be able to afford water power for our dam.  These are the types of energy this country should aim for.

That now lease solar panels for the same monthly price as your current electric bill:

I'm sure there is at least one more, but I can't remember its name. It's worth looking into. You can have solar with no up-front out-of-pocket expenditure, and pay it off over time.

It may also be worth looking into whether your community has a PACE funding option - the community issues a bond that's used to fund Property Assessed Clean Energy projects. You pay the loan back via your property taxes, and when you sell the home, that tax is passed to the next owner.

Also, learn how to eliminate phantom power loads.

And replace your 2 most-used light bulbs with LED bulbs. You can now get warm white bulbs at some of the big box home stores. Look for a light "color" of 2700k - usually these bulbs have a yellow plastic portion in them to change the color. It looks weird in the box, but it's white when on.

Then there's the old standby: remember to turn things off, and don't turn them on unless you need to (like the light in a bright room in daylight). :-)
