    after, having lived through the gas crunch and the rest of the 70's in Europe was that, on the whole, Europe learned the lesson about fuel efficiency and did not really ever go back.

    The USA, on the other hand, with Reagan as pilot, went right back to business as usual pre-crisis. Bigger, heavier gas guzzler cars, and so on and so forth.

    Which is what really pisses me off: in the very early 80's it wasn't hard to find a car that got 55 mpgs highway.

    Good luck with that now (in the USA)

      they learn from their mistakes.

      America goes on to make the same mistakes, over and over again, just bigger and better!

      I honestly didn't think it could get worse than Reagan: I left the country because of him.

      Well....then came Bush.
