  •  I posted to her tip jar there, objecting to her (0+ / 0-)

title. She did it, so it  is okay for you to do that? You don't need me to make a further statement re that plece of unlogical thinking.

The link you posted has at the bottom that Janes's work is controversial. His bio states the same.

He does have a society named after him. (He is dead.) It might be defined as cultish, if one so chooses.

I do not see where he had an clinical training, or clinical practice. I do not know how he "learned" to diagnose mental illness.

He was a psychologist, not a psychiatrist. All schizoprenics are treated by psychiatrists, since effective treament includes prescription medications.

His book and lectures are about the bicameral mind.  The focus of his career was the bicameral mind.

I strongly suggest you delete this diary, refer to research on amorality, then try again.

    •  My wife is a psychologist (0+ / 0-)

She has seen schizophrenics in her practice.

You are showing your scientific ignorance when you say "all schizophrenics are treated by psychiatrists".

The fact is that ONLY psychiatrists are allowed by law to prescribe the medications that control schizophrenic symptoms. People on medication can and do see psychologists, not in any great numbers; but on the fact of who treats them, you are wrong.

Yes, I willingly put Jaynes website up for everyone to see his controversial background. Now you want to beat me up for being honest. The man was a professor at Princeton. He was also a classics scholar. He was the kind of genuine intellect that the corporatization of education has run out of town on a rail.

If you noted his society, you might have noticed the neuropsychology and functional MRI papers posted their giving experimental credence to his pre-MRI era speculations on the mental processes underlying auditory hallucinations.

Quite clearly there are a lot of people who are invested in bashing anyone who dares to bring up mental illness. I suppose you figure that if we raise this issue, the GOP will institute Soviet-style psychological prisons where we all be given chemical lobotomies.

Or, more realistically, given the assault on mental health in America (target of conservative hatred, Hollywood joke topic (e.g,.Frazier), the destruction of the mental health inpatient hospitals and the use of jails as holding pens for the mentally ill) you are afraid that any discussion of the completely irrational and dangerous behavior of the GOP will result in yet another unjustified attack on mental health in this country.

Well, congratulations on self-neutering. The Republican Party organization is nuts; and you telling me to shut up won't change that.

      •  Many people do see psychologists, yes. They do (0+ / 0-)

not exclusively see psychologists. The MD prescribes. I believe that any psychologist that treats schizophrenics without a referral, without working with a MD, would be very rare or non-exsistent.

His speculations are that. Speculations. He never saw patients, he never DX'd. His book is not about the treatment of disease.

His intellect may be genuine. I don't know. You say he is a classics scholar. Irrelevant.

"I suppose you figure", guessing what I am thinking is irrelevant, too.

I am not "beating you up for being honest". Jaynes is not an MD. His career had nothing to do with mental illness. The book is about bicameralism, not mental illness.

Stating what you believe I am feeling and thinking is irrelevant.

        Self neutering. Interesting phrase.

I'm trying to engage you in conversation. Not working.

        •  Your doggedness convinces me you are trying (0+ / 0-)

          ... to communicate.

But, I got your communication in the first message. Jaynes is irrelevant. The metaphor is blasphemy. And I should retract this.

Everything since then has been a repetition, with you trying to knock me down and me defending myself.

You want me to admit that there is no merit whatsoever in saying that the GOP are literally nuts. I'm not going to say that.

So, despite your admirable persistence, you have not convinced me, merely consumed my time. It is midnight and I have been at this for nine hours. I am really tired; and the umpteenth go-round of this argument seems not worth it.

I am sorry we were unable to communicate better; but I was behaving in ways that the DKos environment have taught me to behave. I have never encountered you before; but I have encountered many hostile people without your commitment to communication. Some of them right here in this thread.

So, next time I see you, I will try to communicate. But, I only post about once a month, due to work and family commitments.

          Best wishes.
