  •  The GOP is not defenseless (0+ / 0-)

They aren't defenseless because they are running against the Democrats, a party that is breath-taking in its fecklessness and inability to craft--and follow through on--a bold message.

I fear there is a lot of premature triumphalism about. One would think the granny-strangling radicalism of the Ryan budget would be a millstone too heavy around the GOP's neck.  But recall that not long after Kathy Hochul won a special election for a Congressional seat from New York running on defense of Medicare and Social Security, the Obama administration decided that would be a good time to start pushing a "Grand Bargain." So much for that momentum.

And some rumors swirling about indicate that the administration hasn't yet given up their obsession with proving their Very Serious bonafides by attacking "entitlements" and ramming through some version of Simpson-Bowles.

We know what the GOP stands for: an across the board attack on the living standards and political power of the 99% in the service of the 1%. But what do the Democrats stand for? As long as they feel the need to continue to please the Big Banker class as well as fish for votes in the 99%, their message will be mush.

Perhaps you can beat something with (close to) nothing, but I wouldn't bet granny's life on it.
