  •  Not the same God (8+ / 0-)

After years of believing that my Mormon ancestors worshiped the same God that other Christians worship I have come to believe that isn't so.

Their "Heavenly Father" is very different,  one of many Gods of other planets. Their God is polygamist and humans also have a "Heavenly Mother".

Jesus is his son, but so is Lucifer.

The Holy Ghost is a separate being. The Trinity are three distinct beings.

If you follow Doctrine and perfect yourself you, too can become a God and I just don't think that puts their God in the same ballpark with other Xtian's God.

I am an atheist and really don't believe in any of it so correct me if I'm wrong.

Is it true? Is it kind? Is it necessary? . . . and respect the dignity of every human being.

    •  Sorry, it's the same God, IMHO . .. (0+ / 0-)

the same God as Yaweh, Jehovah, and Allah. and the same Father of the Christ.

All the rest is just about optional extras, like air conditioning or HID headlights on a car.  E.g.:

The Holy Ghost is a separate being. The Trinity are three distinct beings.
The Trinity didn't become official until the 7th century, and the minutiae of the relationship between God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit is at least as full of mumbo-jumbo as any of the Mormons curious beliefs.  And there are plenty of Christian heritages that do not subscribe to Chalcedonian orthodoxy.

means little to me. I think it's probably up to actual believers to decide what they think. I'm saying that based on what I know of the religion I think that the Mormon vision of God is very different from what I know of most Christian's view.
