  •  Republican Claims are the Facts Seniors Accepted (23+ / 0-)

2 years ago to give us our historic defeat.

It was Mr. Obama's turn to successfully explain the program to the people 2-3 years ago. Now for the 2nd election in a row he's once again allowed the Republicans to lead on framing his signature issue.

The Obama team has been out front and strong in so many ways this time, it's scary to see them still running years behind the Republicans on the Democrats' strongest positive policy offering.

What was the 'historic defeat in the midterms, as seen with so many states givin over as well, was apparently the dems missed the near dictatorship of the cheney/bush with tepub congresses, only a short few years out, and gave at least some of that back!

    •  Dems stayed home in 2010 (17+ / 0-)

We got crushed because the Dems thought Obama was God and that he could fix everything the Republicans had been winning for 3 decades, in 2 years.  Obama contributed to the disappointment by listening to Geithner, believing the Republicans would really compromise with him, and acting like the Junior Senator from Illinois, rather than the President of the United States.

He's learned a lot in the past 4 years and I expect the next 4 to be MUCH better (but not perfect).  The big question is, have the Democratic voters learned anything, in the past 2 years, about the damage they do to the country when they stay home and pout.

      •  Actually, that's not true. Democrats turned out. (2+ / 0-)

Independents and swing voters didn't turn out.

Which I don't believe to be true at all.

Guess we'll have to go hunt down some exit polls.

              From the Pew Research Center:

              Exit Poll Analysis

2006       Dem   Rep         2010       Dem   Rep

              Dems   38           93       7           35             91      7
              Rep      36              8      91         35             5       94
              Ind       26            57      39         29             37     56

Dems lost 2% to Repugs in off year, but here's what they said about Conservatives.

The proportion of self-described conservative voters increased by nearly a third from 2006 -- from 32% to 42% -- and is the highest percentage of conservative voters in the past two decades.
In other words, conservatives showed up in big numbers, liberals and moderates didn't.
              •  That is still not a reason (0+ / 0-)

to bash progressives. Conservatives were more motivated to vote, which is not the same thing as progressives being not motivated to vote.

          •  No it doesn't. The indies and swing (0+ / 0-)

voters who voted in 2008 for Dems didn't vote in 2010, meaning the same number of Repub voters won in 2010 where they lost in 2008.

            •  Sorry, but isn't that saying Dem voters didn't sho (0+ / 0-)

By Dem voters, I don't mean just party members, although they gave up 2% to Republicans, I also mean the typical Indie who normally votes Dem.  They just didn't show up, and they have to this year.

              •  That is exactly what we are saying. (0+ / 0-)

Progressives came out. Ergo, we are not to blame for 2010. "The typical Indie who normally votes Dem" did not come out. Yes. This is why we are asking people who keep bashing Progressives for 2010 to stop. It is untrue.

The big question is, have the Democratic voters learned anything, in the past 2 years, about the damage they do to the country when they stay home and pout.
This is another reason why the GOP is focusing SO hard on voter suppression. The Rs know they only have one path to victory: Getting Americans who will vote for Dems to stay home or denying them ballot access.

      •  yes, too many did stay home (4+ / 0-)

We got crushed because a bunch of petulant progressives decided that making progress wasn't good enough and we should be there already, so let's take a step backwards a few years because we need to pout.

And many still won't admit it.  Fine.

Just don't do it again.  VOTE!

voted in normal numbers. Unaffiliated voters didn't come out for the Dems like they had in 2008. Your POV is bordering on CT . . .

We got crushed because the Dems thought Obama was God and that he could fix everything the Republicans had been winning for 3 decades, in 2 years.
our dominant american RW media aided in that perception, calling him messiah and claiming he was calling himself that

the big problem was this: the naive idea that many first time participants had:

that he could fix everything the Republicans had been winning for 3 decades, in 2 years.

or easily could have. especially with hannity singing the same note right after that.

the talk radio gods are not backing down and they're going to be louder and more sustained in their certitude than the dems  that obama stole 750 billion.

and the GOP will enjoy that bandwagon with help from most of the media talking heads, which won't call them liars and will pretend it's just the way the obama admin is framing it.

they know it's nuanced and they are louder

I do not recall seeing Paul Ryan's plan being met with ticker-tape parades throughout the US. You see the Dems running "years behind" the GOP on the response to Paul Ryan's plan.

If you are trying to scare me into thinking something, brother, this is a fail.
