Posted this in response to a cartoon about climate change on my facebook page:

Arsenic and mercury are natural, as well. This planet is a -dangerous- place and has been since long before human history started. Poisonous atmosphere, volcanic explosions of unimaginable magnitude, magnetic field reversals, vast swings of climate from mile-deep ice to tropical forests at latitudes where we now consider temperate to be "normal" --dangerous and changeable.

Neither asteroids, volcanoes, icebergs, nor climate swings are (a) man-made, (b) man-caused, or (c) man-affectable. Take it from a geologist.

This is no ignorant person, she is an MIT PhD.

I still can't fathom how she can fail to understand. Presumably, the scientific method was a large part of her education. But there you have it.

pretty easy to point out the faulty thinking there. Hopefully this person's facebook contacts show her up here.

There are those in academia are there because it's a career with built-in respect from which they can network with the best of society ... these people act as mouthpieces for the ruling class and embrace their POV. They get $ for doing so .... Richard Muller is a good example. His primary motivation seems to be "protect business as usual at all costs." He has a consulting firm dedicated to that very goal. Not surprising he does what he does.
