  •  It was 115°F. It rained. Lightning struck. (5+ / 0-)

    winds picked up embers and more fire broke out.  The rain did not set fire to the plants, if rain were setting fire to plants it would have to contain some really nasty chemicals.  The other options, I suppose are an angry God or as some ancient aliens theorists believe, aliens. :)  Pretty much any day where fire is raining down from the sky is going to be an extraordinarily bad day.
